There’s been cake, balloons and a growing order book at TBM as we celebrate ten years of passenger comfort services for UK train operators.
It’s been a busy decade. We’ve grown, adapted and improved what we offer to TOCs. We now support rail fleets with a wide range of services that improve carriage conditions for train users.
Seat covers are deep-cleaned using hi-tech dry-cleaning machinery, toilet systems are maintained, electrical charging sockets installed and tough nylon coatings are added to grab poles and seat handles to improve passenger facilities.
Ultimately, we help operators to keep carriage standards high.
TBM was formed in 2009 by directors Neil Smith and Andy Hawker. They have a wide variety of rail and engineering experience between them.
Neil served as an apprentice at British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) in the late 80s and witnessed a fast-changing industry as privatisation transformed how the UK railways were operated.
He said: “I saw how the rail industry changed and identified ways we could support train operators with services that help them raise standards for passengers.
“We have grown from just a few people ten years ago to a team of 15 at Crewe, with an additional 30 contractors working with us at depots around the country.
“Because we operate for our Crewe base or at customer facilities around the country we can offer the train operators real flexibility so they can respond to requirements as they arise.”
As well as ongoing work across the UK rail network, TBM has recently signed a five-year deal to support new fleets of Hitachi trains in the UK.
Other new services include freshwater tank cleaning, hygiene testing and an innovative seat cover and carpet protection system that extends the life of fabrics and materials.
